    Hi Tyrone,

I just checked out your blog and your Quickstart guide, and I think
it’s great to see more people writing about dragonboating online and
    its techniques and strategy.

I also read your blog post about caterpillaring and being in sync, and
to my surprise, I noticed that the picture of your example of ‘in
sync’ was a picture I took of my team, Living Root Dragon Boat. I’m
glad to see that others are finding a use for the pictures other than
just being posted on our team’s website and photo gallery.

    Hi David,

Thanks for the heads up on that. It’s really exciting to see that people really notice these things!

  3. Thank you for your contributions towards the continuing growth of a fantastic sport.
One comment from the “Quickstart” section on “Wax or Gloves” would be to check with race officials and rules before a competition concerning wax. We’ve had paddles deemed “illegal” due to wax being used. Our Club recommends the useage of gloves.

  4. Hi Phil,

Thanks for your comment and I appreciate your honest opinion. I know that some officials and race events don’t allow gloves as well and I appreciate your feedback about that. I will add some more information to the Quickstart about that as well. I know here in Australia most clubs use wax during training and at a majority of the events. Though I have been to a National event where they have requested that we could not use wax, but there were enough clubs who protested and they ended up allowing it.

  5. Hi Tyrone – I downloaded the book since we’ve just had 4 level 1 coaches trained by DBNSW and with the additional coaches already in place we needed to sort out some sort of system including an intro for ‘newies’. I found the booklet very useful.

We’ve few young people in the club so far but an active membership of 80 plus in just 2 years and we compete in every regatta we can get to. DBNSW is, unfortunately, not as active with sweep accreditation as it is with coaching so we’re hampered with schools and young persons expansion etc until we can get more through. Frustrating!!

    Kind regards
    Geoff

  13. Brian Jackson on

Im new to dragon boating so i have found the guide very helpfull

One thing i have found hard so far- coach keeps saying to move my hand further down handle almost on the blade to get max pull

It feels more natural to hold it about 1-2 handwidths up the shaft

I dont feel im pulling any less and think i get a better entry to the water

    Any Thoughts?

    Thanks again
