Ocky Oar Wooden Paddles

Paddles

Today I’m going to discuss about the Ocky Oar Paddles. One of the most cheapest and relatively sturdy paddles you can choose to use. They are what we call the “Klonkers” of dragonboating. Generally these paddles do the job to pull the boat through the water and is sufficient enough for any beginner. The Ocky Oar paddles are Australian made and are distributed worldwide. These paddles are made of Hyne Araucaria, which is a traditional native Australian timber. For protection they are finely glazed with laquer to provide protection. The downside is they don’t have a plastic tip on the end of the blade to protect it from splitting and this is why over time you will find them to get water logged and also become quite heavy to use.

Currently they are selling for $55 each and are mostly good for startup clubs who are on a budget. They weigh almost 700g on average and can get quite heavy when paddling long distances.

Personally I have used them and they are solid paddles, but not very durable if they get dents or a crack on them. Once that happens and water gets in, the paddle will feel like a brick.

Manufacturer: Ocky Oars
Weight: 700g or 24.5oz
IDBF 202a Spec: Approved License Number 3071
Material & Construction: Hyne Araucaria.
Country of origin: Australia

Are you sure you don’t have the wrong picture for Ocky Oars dragon boat paddles? The set of Ocky Oars paddles our club owns have T-piece tops and the tips are reinforced with a hardwood strip. The logo looks very different, too.

    Hi Lynne,

Thanks for your feedback. Yes these are correct photos of the paddles. They do come in the T-Grip as well and from what they show above they are the really basic model.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    Hi Yvonne,

Thanks for your comment. My suggestion would be to go back to the people who you purchased the paddles from and they would be able to assist you better. Unfortunately I don’t know much about those paddles you bought.

The photo of the paddle is not our dragon boat paddle. The photo you have shown is our production tinny paddle. The photo you have shown was lifted from a timber publication.
    Lunne was correct.
I would advise that you contact me by phone on (07) 41595020
